Blow the Whistle half time to halve poverty
On Sunday afternoon 20th May from 3-4 pm
in Picadilly Gardens, Manchester
Since 2007 is the half way mark to the government’s aim to halve global poverty in 2015, the Blow the Whistle campaign aims at drawing attention to the lack of sufficient progress in fulfilling the commitments made by world leaders in 2000 aiming to halve poverty by 2015.
Blowing the Whistle half time will be a powerful reminder to the UK government that we are as committed to the poor as we have been during the recent years, expressed in Make Poverty History campaign, the Jubilee 2000, Drop the Debt and other high profile campaigns. A powerful reminder which will come a few weeks ahead of the next G8 conference in June.
Our aim is to draw a crowd of all ages to join for 1 hour in Piccadilly Gardens on Sunday 20 May to jointly blow the whistles which have been produced for the campaign. Similarly to the make Poverty History rally in Edinburgh, we will ask people to wear white.
Whistles can be bought from the stewards i(£1) or order en masse from the Micah Challenge website (micahchallenge.org.uk).
Please distribute the message amongst your friends, constituents, networks, schools. workplaces and contacts so that the people in the NWest will join to make some noise for justice.
We aim to video the event and put it on YouTube. Across the world Blow the Whistle campaign will be enacted on 7/7/07, so Manchester can be an inspiration to many.
