Who we are
Hope Direct is a registered charity set up to respond to the needs of the poor in Sierra Leone and other developing nations. Sierra Leone suffered from a civil war which lasted for 11 years from 1991 and ended in 2002. As a result of this war many of its population now suffers from poverty, hunger, some are still internally displaced and lack basic human rights. Sierra Leone is ranked as the poorest nation in the world by UN development index and highly depends on international aid. Many children were used as child soldiers during the civil conflict. Some children still beg for money on behalf of their families instead of attending schools. Please support us in taking action against the devastating effect of:
Unclean and unsafe drinking water - through drilling water wells
Lack of Education - by finding sponsorship for the world poorest children
HIV/IADS - through health education and care
Conflicts – through peace and reconciliation
Hunger – by the provision of tools and seeds
Unemployment – through micro finances and fair trading
What we do…
1. Redeem Skill Bank Project
At redeem, we encourage Refugees/Asylum seekers to participate in the community of Greater Manchester by using their skills in volunteering to recycle, to share and gain skills (like diy, and gardening, painting and decorating) in meaningful occupation.
We also ship to recycled items Sierra Leone to create employment for the world’s poorest people and for sponsoring schools, orphans and farmers.
2. Overseas Projects
Hope Direct aims to resettle families (who are still internally displaced and are afraid to go back into their lands because they’ve lost everything during the war) by:
- Empowering them to be self reliant through farming, providing them with seeds, tools, and training.
- Micro credit schemes to set up their own business.
- Sponsoring war affected children to go back to school instead of being used as bread winners.
- Providing safe drinking water by digging community water wells.
- Training ands supporting community health workers to reach villages that do not vehicle access.
3. Vision Trips
The aim for our Vision Trips is provide an opportunity for westerners participate in practically in overseas projects by encouraging volunteers to raise funds, equipment, relief items etc for various projects by making short field trip to work alongside local people in community projects in Sierra Leone. The outcome of such trips is learning about the culture of another country; share your skills/experience with local people.
One of the outcomes will be participant’s experience of poverty in first hand which no media programmes can relay the full horror or smell of abject grinding poverty. This will have a deep and lasting impact on participants and it will help them to better understand poverty issues, making them more effective advocates for change when they return home.
The outcome however for beneficiaries is the amazement that comparatively rich and ordinary westerners, not professional NGO staff, would leave their comfortable homes and share times, talents, and finances in helping to eradicate poverty among in their communities. That they have not been forgotten and their hope is being restored.
Hope Direct is looking partnership with organisations, businesses etc, whose aim is to make a difference in the lives disadvantaged and impoverished communities. We will be delighted to hear from you if you will like to come to our vision trip or if you will like to fund raise for projects.
Please contact us if you have diy tools, van, a tractor, clothing, bikes, motorbikes, office and household furniture and electrical, computers, stationery, and used mobile phones or finances that you would want to donate. Many thanks for your kindest partnership in bringing direct hope and love to these children and families in need.
