The Boaz Trust is a Christian charity (reg. no 1110344) formed in June 2004 to provide a holistic service for destitute asylum seekers in the North West. It seeks accommodation for those who are homeless, and works with partner agencies such as the Red Cross to set up Destitution Projects across the region to provide weekly food parcels and other essentials.
Currently the trust manages 6 properties owned by supporters, housing 29 mainly African men and women (We got a new house in March 2008). It is partnering with Green Pastures Housing to provide further accommodation. The housing manager co-ordinates advocacy and support services for the residents. The trust also has a hosting programme, enabling British residents to host refused asylum seekers in their homes.
It aims to challenge and equip the Church to tackle the problem of destitution, and campaigns with Church Action on Poverty to change government policy. It employs a full-time director, Dave Smith, housing manager, Nigel Biggs, and Saad Al-Jibory is the part-time Arabic Outreach Worker. By June 2008 we expect to have an Office and Communications Manager too.
These are exciting times! God is a God of love, but also of justice and mercy, and we believe he has an open heart for the poor and the foreigner, so we look forward to seeing him intervene in the lives of those refused asylum seekers who cry out for justice.. As it say in Leviticus 19:33, "Do not take advantage of foreigners living with you in your land. Treat them like native-born Israelites, and love them as you love yourself. Remember that you were once foreigners living in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God."
