Hi, I'm Andy and work for the Manchester City Mission based in Salford. I recently got married to the gorgeous Lydia (check the photo!) and have been working for MCM for 6 years now. I am responsible for 2 major projects, StreetSoccer and Freestylin'.
StreetSoccer is a football based rehabilitation project for homeless, disadvantaged and vulnerable men in Greater Manchester. There are 4 projects at present, in Salford, Central MAnchester, Bolton and Stockport. We have had some fantastic feedback from participants about stabilised lives, commitments of faith, and feedback from their doctors suggesting vastly improved general health and well-being. We are really encouraged about how much God is using Street Soccer and we are always on the look out for more volunteers who have a heart for the homeless and a servanthood heart. Please get in touch if you think you could help support the project in some way!
Freestylin' is a High Schools project that will be aimed at 11-16 year olds who have limited parental support. It's targeting the hours of 3-6pm week-days when many kids have no focus for their attention and can be tempted into unhealthy uses of their time. 2 schools in Bolton have been targeted that are based on council estates and are keen for us to come in next year and link the football sessions with lunch clubs and into local church youth groups. Again, if you're Bolton based and have a heart for young people and are free during those hours, please get in touch!
